The Royal Palace of La Almudaina is situated next to the cathedral.  It's free to those with an EU passport on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.  It is in immaculate condition and very beautiful.  Having been built as an Arabian Fort, it was claimed as an official royal residence in the 13th century by Jaime 2.  The rooms are large and minimally furnished, retaining a medieval atmosphere

.

And finally, to the beach.  Illetes is at the end of the no 3 bus line.  I last visited it 25 years ago and it's development is a disappointment.   The further beach is definitely the nicest, but I prefer Portixol any day, for it's lack of pretentiousness.

Now I'm back in the UK and autumn looms.  I will spend the winter planning my next trip to Central Spain in the spring.  All suggestions welcome.
